1. INTRODUCTION
TeachVault ("TeachVault", "we", "us") is an offline-first mobile app designed for teachers to manage classes, students, and attendance.
We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your data. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and your choices.
IMPORTANT: TeachVault is primarily a teacher tool. Teachers/institutions are responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate authority/consent to store student information.

2. DATA WE COLLECT
2.1 Data You Create In The App (stored on your device)
• Teacher profile: name, email (optional, if you create an account)
• Class data: class names, subjects, schedules, settings
• Student data: names, roll numbers, optional contact details (if you add them)
• Attendance data: attendance status, timestamps, session history
• Notes/metadata you choose to enter
2.2 Device & Diagnostics Data (limited, privacy-preserving)
When enabled, we may collect:
• Device information: device model, OS version, app version, language
• Diagnostic events: crash reports and error logs (to fix bugs and improve stability)
We do NOT collect advertising identifiers for tracking.
2.3 Location Data (optional; used only for attendance integrity)
TeachVault may request location permission to support geo-fencing in QR attendance:
• Location is used only to verify classroom presence during attendance.
• Location is not used for advertising and is not continuously collected in the background.
• You can use TeachVault without granting location permission.
2.4 Camera & Other Permissions (feature-dependent)
TeachVault may request:
• Camera: to scan QR codes (attendance)
• Notifications: reminders/alerts (optional)
• Biometric/Device authentication: to lock/unlock the app (optional)

3. HOW WE USE DATA
We use data to:
• Provide core functionality (classes, students, attendance, reports, exports)
• Protect integrity and prevent misuse
• Provide backups/restores you request or enable
• Improve performance, reliability, and security
We do NOT:
• Sell your data
• Use your data for targeted advertising
• Share student data with third parties for marketing

4. STORAGE, SECURITY, AND BACKUPS
4.1 Local-first storage
• Your primary data is stored locally on your device (SQLite).
• Sensitive fields are encrypted on-device (industry-standard encryption).
4.2 Cloud backups (optional; you control this)
TeachVault offers optional encrypted backups. Backups may use:
• Google Firebase Storage (if signed in and enabled)
• Google Drive (manual/optional)
• iCloud Drive (optional, where supported)
Backup security:
• Backups are encrypted on your device before upload.
• We do not have access to your unencrypted backup contents.
4.3 Security measures
• Encryption at rest (on-device) and encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
• Optional app lock (PIN/biometrics)

5. SHARING & THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
We share data only:
• When you choose to export/share files (CSV/PDF/Excel)
• With service providers you enable (Google Firebase, Sentry for crash reporting)
• When required by law
Third-party services have their own privacy policies.

6. YOUR CHOICES & RIGHTS
In-app controls:
• Export your data (portability)
• Delete your data (including a full wipe option)
• Enable/disable diagnostics/crash reporting
• Enable/disable optional backup features

7. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
TeachVault is intended for teachers (18+), not for children to use directly.
Teachers are responsible for obtaining any required consents for student data they enter.

8. DATA RETENTION
• Local data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.
• Deleted items are retained in Recycle Bin (7 days Free, 60 days Pro) then permanently deleted.
• Diagnostics data is retained for a limited period for troubleshooting.

9. INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS
If you enable cloud features, data may be processed/stored on servers outside your country.
We use encryption in transit and before upload.

10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy. We will update the "Last Updated" date and may provide in-app notice for material changes.
